The polls are open- place your bets on oLahav's top 10 (Discussion)

oLahav saidFri, 18 Jul 2008 19:05:30 -0000 ( Link )

Due to overwhelming demand, I’m starting the following discussion:

Place your bets on which songs will be featured as the top 10 songs of oLahav’s Top 100 Songs Ever list!

Check out the list to see the many songs already published, and try to predict oLahav’s top 10!

The winners will receive bragging rights! And may be acknowledged in Part X of the list when it comes out.

I’ll give you a hint: 9 of the 10 songs are by artists already featured in the list, some featured more than once!

So what are you waiting for? Let the guessing game begin!

Have to say, this little discussion is making me nervous! The anticipation is killing me!

Okay, here’s some of my guesses, in no particular order because that would just be too much of a hit or miss. Maybe I’ll numerate them later.

    • Satisfaction by the Stones
    • Imagine by John Lennon
    • Thriller by Michael Jackson
    • Thunder by ACDC (this is a possibility, we haven’t seen any ACDC in the lists prior)
    • Come Together by the Beatles
    • and…a U2 song..but I can’t decide!

If Thriller, as acrosstheuniverse said, isn’t up there yet, I’m sure it will appear. And I hope there’s some AC/DC, but perhaps not. I’m going with more popular choices than great ones:

    - Seven Nation Army, by the White Stripes

    - Tubthumping, by Chumbawumba (lolz)

    - Thriller, by Michael Jackson

    - Highway to Hell, by AC/DC

    - Under Pressue, by Queen (featuring David Bowie?)

    - Something by R.E.M., I’m thinking Losing My Religion, but it could be Orange Crush

    - Black, by Pearl Jam

    - Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2, by Pink Floyd (although you hinted that it would not appear on the list, as you chose “Hey You” over it)

    - Dare, by Gorillaz

    - Rock the Casbah, by The Clash

    All valid guesses!

Just of a quick note, Part IX is not up yet and will be up early next week. You are allowed to modify your answers after it’s up (for obvious reasons).

As can be seen in Part IX of the list, BassPlayer got a clear shot at Losing My Religion and Under Pressure (though they’re not top 10, but close enough). Another Brick and Krista’s guess of Come Together were also honourably mentioned in a different context.

So, I’m still waiting for more guesses! I’ll be posting hints every day until Friday about the songs in part 10, just because it can be fun.

So, here’s hint 1: Song #7 was released on an album from 1969.

I was very surprised about your Celine Dion addition, Oren. I may have to factor in that out-of-left-field song into my decision making criteria for the top ten…

Hint 2: I’m going to see a huge concert of a certain band tonight, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. And they better play song #8 from my list, or else I’ll be very disappointed!

    Hint 3: Song #6 starts with a B.

And in case you’re wondering, the Eagles were awesome last night! It was Don Henley’s birthday, and sang all the great great songs they’ve got, including #8, and all the big others ones too. It was almost a 4-hour concert with 2 encores! Awesome stuff.

Hint 4: Song #3 is the only song in the top 10 that can also be found in the first part of mcaers’s list posted in this discussion.

    Cheers for good rock!

Tomorrow is the last hint, so start the guessing…

    Ok, final hint:

Hint 5: Song #4 is by a band whose name has only 2 characters- one letter and one number.

Ok, now you have everything to guess with! If you choose not to guess, that’s ok too. Just wait for the list, it will be posted early next week, and then that’s it. I’m so sad it’s over… maybe I’ll expand it to include the 200 top songs ever! I don’t know… Or maybe somebody else can start their own list and I’ll add comments?

    What do you think?

Well, the list is done- Part X is now up.

So, any comments about the list as a whole? Who’s next in starting their own list?
